Earth Scar - mixed media on wooden art board with epoxy resin

Featured work

Earth Scar.
Mixed media on wooden board.

Mixed media on wooden art board, finished in epoxy resin. The red seam running through the blue-grey surface with copper leaf at the edges – it looks like something the earth split open to reveal. Which is more or less what happened when the paint hit the board.

The resin finish seals everything under glass-smooth depth. What you’re looking at is locked in permanently, exactly as it happened. You can see the copper catching the light differently to the acrylic around it.

One-off original. Epoxy resin Copper leaf

The process

“You set the conditions and then you get out of the way. The paint does what it wants. Your job is to know when it’s done.”

Acrylic pour painting is a process of controlled chaos. Pigment, medium, sometimes silicone oil, sometimes heat. The canvas tilted until something happens that couldn’t have been planned. Some pieces take minutes. Some take hours of tilting and watching and waiting.

The mixed media pieces go further – copper leaf, metallic foils, epoxy resin finishes that seal the work under permanent depth. Each one is original. None can be exactly repeated.
